I can’t say enough about the St. Margaret's House Thrift Shop! What a gem to find! I am a sophomore theater student at Pace University, just a couple of blocks away from the thrift store. I am working on developing an interesting costume collection, but we can’t afford to pay big bucks for the costumes. St. Margaret's House Thrift Shop has just what I need – great quality, vintage clothing at an extremely affordable price. I have used clothing from this thrift store in 4 productions at Pace already, and my friends are always asking to borrow for their own shows and theater projects.
Unlike most NYC thrift stores, where merchandise isn’t always cheap and most good things are gone before you know it, St. Margaret's House Thrift Shop always has a steady stock of interesting and beautiful pieces. My favorite is their $1 rack, which I make sure to check at least weekly, since I find new stuff every time: a nautical style blazer, an olive green peasant skirt, a white lace buttoned top, a pink and black vintage patterned jacket, vintage white dress gloves, men’s wool pants – Just a few of many MANY great purchases from the dollar rack! Of course, in addition to making wonderful costume pieces, I can’t resist working some of my treasures into my own wardrobe and wearing them!
St. Margaret's House Thrift Shop also has a fascinating collection of records, books, and movies. My roommate and I decorated our dorm walls with Broadway records that we found for only $1 each. A friend of mine brags about the $4 unopened Beatles puzzle he found last week.
The staff that work in the thrift store are kind hearted and caring. They always ask about my purchases and my upcoming shows, and I truly appreciate their interest in my projects and their merchandise. It’s a pleasure to shop with people who have an invested interest in the things they are selling and the lives of their customers!
I stop by St. Margaret’s at least once a week, to catch the latest deals and treasures. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique thrift store at a great price! The best of NYC!
